Move without Fear
interview by Claus-Dieter

Q:: You once wrote an article for TDS about how you got your designer name, Movefearlessly. Can you tell us again briefly the meaning behind the name?
Roxanna::
About 5-1/2 years ago I was involved in a very severe vehicle accident. It was pretty horrible, spinal cord injury and was in therapy for a long time. As a result of that, one of my therapists just happened to run across a cartoon that she brought to me one day. It was just a little doodle that said, "Move without Fear". I just thought that was the greatest little slogan. I tried to set up an e-mail address with it but it has too many characters so I thought and thought and came up with something else and just one day, 'Movefearlessly' popped into my head. When I started scrapbooking and starting signing into forums and participating, that would be the name that I would used.
Q:: Q:: You have different categories in your site from apparels to digital kits, web design services to commercial use products. Can you describe to us which are the most important categories and why you have chosen them?
Roxanna::
I really enjoy web design. I really enjoy customizing websites for other designers. One thing that I found is I have a knack for it. It's so strange because a lot of designers while they are brilliant and design beautiful kits, they don't understand html codes and all the things that it takes to put together a website. I love to help designers realize their dreams by helping them to put their stores in place. I very much enjoy creating something out of nothing.
Q:: Can you say which would be your favorite category then?
Roxanna::
My favorite category is web design.
Q:: When did you decide to be a designer?
Roxanna::
I sort of drifted into it about a 1-1/2 year ago. I started straight out digital scrapbooking. One of the designers in the store I first started designing for approached me and asked if I wanted to be a part of her creative team. Then the owner of the store approached me not long after that asking me if I would be interested in digital scrapbooking design in designing kits. I had been playing with the few kits myself so it just seemed like something I will be suited in doing.
Q:: What gives you the most inspiration?
Roxanna::
It sounds kind of corny but I am a big reader. In fact I just finished a kit that was inspired in part by a quote from {author name} of all thing [laugh]. I just had the quote in my head, draw some colors that seem to fit and the kit flows from there. So I use a lot of quotes in my kits from the books I read.

Q:: What kind of software do you use to design your products?
Roxanna::
I'm a big fan of Adobe Dreamweaver. I love it. It's a very great programmer.
Q:: How often do you produce a kit?
Roxanna::
When I work, I work a lot at one time. I have a lot of inspirations that hit me all at once or I have a lot of designers that need help all at once. It seems to come in spurts and then unfortunately I have a dry spell and nothing much happen.
Q:: What makes you unique is that you obtained your inspirations through reading while most are inspired by going out and observing their natural surroundings. You mentioned in our e-mail exchange that you suffered from insomnia. Is that a result of your accident if I may ask or it's a complete different story?
Roxanna::
I always have trouble sleeping. I always have a brain that I just couldn't shut off.
Q:: What do you do when you can't sleep? Is this the time to get inspired or is the time completely wasted?
Roxanna::
It can go either way [laugh]
Q:: Have you started digital scrapbooking before or after your accident?
Roxanna::
I have always been a little creative even before my accident but I would be much of a physical person. In my free time, I taught aerobic so I didn't have as much downtime as I have now. A lot of time my brain in more in control now.
Q:: How many hours a day do you spend designing your kits and websites?
Roxanna::
I probably spend a good solid 8 - 10 hours every day.
Q:: Wow! That's a long time. Do you do this part time or full time? Is this a hobby?
Roxanna::
Even though it's about 8 - 10 hours but my schedule is unlike a different person would be. I have a lot of time where I put the computer away and do other things. So even though it sounds like a full time job, it's not. But I would classify it as more than a hobby.
Q:: Could you say in your career as a designer that you could point out one particular design and said, 'This is the best ever'? Do you have something like 'Highlights' that you always fall back too or would you say after you got into it everything becomes more of a steady process?
Roxanna::
I really think that with everything that I designed I become a little bit better. That's what I strive to do. I try always to become more creative and increase my level of skills. I really enjoy doing this so I want to do the best I can.
